Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure - Track Work
Introduction:
This is a general qualification for a person engaged in basic operations within the rail infrastructure environment undertaking a range of tasks involving known routines and procedures‚ and taking some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.
This qualification is suited to those looking to enter the rail infrastructure industry undertaking Track Work. Learners will learn how to enter the rail corridor safely, use basic hand tools, communication and WHS requirements.
The Track Work package is a total of 16 units comprising of:
6 x Core Units
- TLIB0012 Maintain and use hand tools
- TLID0020 Shift materials safely using manual handling methods
- TLIE1003 Participate in basic workplace communication
- TLIF0025 Follow work health and safety procedures
- TLIF2010 Apply fatigue management strategies
- TLIU2008 Apply environmental procedures to rail infrastructure
7 x Units from Group A - Track Work
- TLIF0020 Safely access the rail corridor
- TLIB2085 Apply track fundamentals
- TLIB2092 Operate minor mechanical equipment
- TLIS2030 Carry out track ballasting
- TLIS2031 Install railway sleepers
- TLIS2034 Install and repair rail fastening systems
- TLIS2044 Carry out rail installation

** General elective units can be selected from any relevant nationally endorsed training package but are subject to availability and course requirements.
A Competent mark in every unit must be received before a Certificate can be issued.
Students must be able to speak, understand and complete the assessments in English, and pass a basic Language, Literacy and Numeracy test prior to training commencement.
There are no entry requirements but access to the Rail Corridor and industry equipment is required to complete assessment items.
This qualification is offered:
- Internally - face to face workshop and assessment;
- Externally (online) - All training and assessment are via eLearning platform. (Some electives may not be available via online learning) or
- Combined - A mixture of face to face workshop and eLearning (online) modules
INTERNAL DELIVERY
Face to face workshop is required (typically two weeks). On Job logbooks must then be completed in a work environment. Logbook completion must be completed with 12 months of enrolment date.

Training and assessment is delivered via our eLearning platform and is available anytime.
External Requirements
Participants must have sufficient computer skills, access to a computer or other viewing device (laptop or computer recommended), and a sufficient internet connection to view the course and complete all assessments including uploading video and documents.
By enrolling, learners will create an online profile and gain access to training and assessment through their Learner Portal. They are expected to be able to access, read and interpret a range of learning materials, training activities and assessments via the online platform.
Learners must agree to a Learner Declaration at the completion of each assessment to declare all work is completed independently and is their own.

Learners will need to complete supervised activities in the field (workplace) to complete this course.
On Job Logbooks or Third Party Reports will be supplied for the learner to complete the relevant tasks. Once completed, they can be submitted via the Learner Portal.
If a Learner does not have a suitable workplace, the eLearning component can be completed however, a learner will not be able to be issued a Certificate OR Statement of Attainment until the logbook is completed (in the workplace).
Learners must complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment prior to accessing this module. This does not require a pass mark but rather acts as an evaluation and to ensure sufficient language skills and capabilities to complete courses successfully.

To accommodate for learner’s special needs and LLN requirements, assessment instruments are designed to allow for reasonable adjustment, including verbal assessment and the use of a scribe to record answers.
Assessment may be altered to suit the characteristics or equity needs of learners.
All adjustments to assessments will be negotiated with the candidate before the assessment event and will maintain the integrity of the unit of competency.
